Empowering the children of Baja

 In #EmpowerOrphans, Past Events

Dear friends,

I would like to thank you for the positive responses and great show of interest after the announcement of our non-profit formation. We are now ready to get to work on our first program: #PowerBajaOrphanages.

Today, over 6,000 children live on the streets in Northern Baja and thousands more live in abject poverty, creating a social crisis for our neighbor next door. Lacking the social welfare systems we’re accustomed to in the US, these children are often left to fend for themselves on the streets of Mexico. A small network of private orphanages in Baja are the ONLY salvation for these children.  To empower these communities, #GetChargedUp and Corazon de Vida have partnered to install solar electric systems at 10 orphanages throughout Baja California.

Our first installation will be in Valle de Guadalupe at Rancho de Los Ninos. The orphanage houses over 70 kids including 14 special needs children. Rancho de Los Ninos will be the first recipient of a 10kW solar electric system. The planned solar array will also serve as a hands-on training facility for the locals to gain the needed skills and join the solar revolution underway in Mexico.

We are very excited to use the power of solar energy to empower the community while reducing the orphanages’ operating costs. These savings will free up over 10% of the monthly spending which will help provide even more life-changing support.

So come celebrate the launch with us, get involved, and #PowerBajaOrphanages x Rancho de Los Niños!
